SF Based Neo Soul Artist 8th Grader Has Released New Album

San Francisco based neo soul R&B musician, 8th Grader has released a new self titled EP. This creative and mellow down tempo R&B EP has a smooth and enticing style that brings new flavor to the Bay Area music scene. This 6-track album has touches of 80's synth soul with influences of Prince's classic soundscape. The album definitely has a great flow. We encourage that you give the 8th Grader EP!

Borrisokane EP Release, Murdering Teeth, 5/17/13, Upcoming Show @ Red 7, 6/8/13

The Scottish Rite Theatre couldn't have been a more perfect setting for Borrisokane's release of Murdering Teeth this Friday. The stage was an awe to behold with cutout trees of many greens surrounding the bands. Complimentary masquerade masks are amongst the other imaginative details that confettied the night. It was like a scene right out of Peter Pan, contrasting the sheer elegance of Wendy's world with the wonder of Peter's, making you feel like Wendy holding tight to Peter's hand as he shows you Never Never Land. You're flying one minute and missing mommy the next. It's simply beautiful.

With each song, Murdering Teeth holds a fantasy world of its very own bringing listeners to a new consciousness. I loved the breathy opening in 'Amelia Fucking Earhart' that lead to escalating instrumentals and a consuming sense of urgency. My other favorite was the glittering keyboard of 'Victoria Please' that flew me through a nebula of sound and clouds of emotional infinity.  Check it out for yourself and pick up a copy of Borrisokane's new EP today! -- Written by Katy Glass

Joy Kills Sorrow releases 'Wide Awake' EP + tours extensively

Boston/Portland (ME)/Brooklyn based quintet Joy Kills Sorrow is that go to band every blogger speaks highly of, but they have yet to make the kind of splash they deserve. That may change with the pending release of new EP 'Wide Awake,' to be followed by a lengthy coast to coast tour. The five piece bluegrass/folk group has always found ways to extend themselves. Be it virtuoso string playing, huge lead vocals (Emma Beaton) or their penchant for re-configuring their classical backgrounds to carve out new worlds for pop jams (check out their fantastic cover of 'Such Great Heights,' streaming below), the band always comes across sounding new while staying firmly rooted in a classic American roots tradition. They're setting off across the country this summer, but be sure to catch them live when they come around later this year.

Hobart W Fink Release Show at the Satellite May 30

Founded in 2012 by Jayk Gallagher, Hobart W Fink describe themselves as slightly nerdy, ironic indie rock with a soupçon of grunge. The band’s co-lead singers, Gallagher and Marie Bollinger, blend razor sharp harmonies atop their eclectic stew of rock influences. Their debut single, “Hundred Dollar Bill,” is gutsy, grungy, and raw. A fast-paced and edgy rock tune that never takes itself too seriously. The band has a release show at The Satellite May 30 followed by an EP release in July at Casey’s Pub. - Jacqueline Caruso

Yankee Bang Bang wins The Deli's Battle of the Vans + releases new EP on June 12

Last week we fired off an email blast to all the NYC bands in our email database in search for a man/woman with a van who could help us distribute the Spring 2013 issue of The Deli. After a careful analysis of each band's music and van, we decided to go for Brooklyn lo-fi poppers Yankee Bang Bang and their  2006 Dodge Grand Caravan! Not too old + perfect size to fit 8k copies of The Deli + chilled dudes (we imagine).

The band will be releasing a new EP on June 12 with a show at Grand Vicotry. In the meantime, enjoy this track from an older rlease.

Smith Westerns "3am Spiritual"

Smith Westerns have released another track, "3am Spiritual", from their forthcoming album "Soft Will" out June 25th on Mom + Pop. The band's sound still has elements of surf rock, but they seemed to have toned down the garage and lo-fi components completely. This new track is a wonderful departure from their sound with it's light, pop-filled melody.

Fort Frances

Fort Frances released their new ep Harbour late last month, and have now released a very cool cover of Ryan Adams' track "New York, New York". The track lead up to a show last weekend in The Big Apple. The trio, lead by vocalist David McMillin, play a passionate brand of roots rock.

Cold Blue Kid "Now You Wake"

Alex Longoria is the frontman for Cold Blue Kid and is also involved with Hidden Era and Bright Ships. Cold Blue Kid is planning a full length release for the end of summer and have released a video for the new album's first single "Now You Wake".
