Boy Scouts plays Phono del Sol June 15th

Phono del Sol is a free festival at Potrero del Sol park. This year’s lineup features an Oakland favorite, Boy Scouts, whose folksy bedroom pop-rock is relaxing, charming and damn good. Taylor Vick’s vocals are sweet and pitch perfect, a fine complement to the keys and strums. Boy Scouts’ last release, Spiritual Pickle, is a 2-song sampler. Tracks “Kite” and “My Idiot Brain” are lofi, low pressure and highly pleasing. Catch Boy Scouts at Phono del Sol and wherever else they’re playing comin’ up soon! Stay tuned. - Lucille Faulkner

July’s Burger Boogaloo bustin’ a move

This July marks Burger Boogaloo’s 10th year anniversary show and the Boogaloo folks are really busting out a sweet, sweet lineup. As tradition insisted,  the festival is hosted by purity king John Waters and will feature some solid favorites from the homefront and beyond. A small snippet from the two-day bill includes Jesus and Mary Chain, Shannon the Clams, The Scientists, No Bunny, King Tuff and those Australian sweets, The Chats. Speaking of which, we’ll leave you with this mullet and smoko-filled video as a taste and hope to see you at Mosswood Park this July. Smoko, baby. -Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Same Girls debut new single “Wait”

Post-punk pop rock cuatro Same Girls just came out with their new single, “Wait” and it’s a perfect blend of their varied interested and influences. You can hear The Clash and The Strokes and some 80’s energy almost reminiscent of the B-52’s. Lead vocalist Taifa Nia’s is energetic and fun. Nia says the new single, "describe the loneliness and the heartbreak endemic in our esthetically obsessed clout culture." Listen here! - Lucille Faulkner

Baseball Gregg plays Milk Bar May 24

Baseball Gregg is always keeping us on our toes. Just when we’re divining into some sweet n jazzy cabana beats, they switch gears and take us to a poppier place with funky baseline magic. Check out their newest single, “The Movies,” and in case you’re ready for summer, please enjoy their weird and solid music video for “Welcome the Night.” Love us some Wes Andersonian touches like that. They’re playing Milk Bar with Video Age and Max Gardener this Friday May 24. Thanks, Throwin’ Bo’s, for another tasty lineup. - Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Broke For Free (BFF) releases video that’s weird in a good way

Broke for Free (BFF) just released a fun and weird video for their new track “Jibberish (Feat Awon)" and it is a weird and fun trip we won't even try to explain. Mouths all over the place and we're loving it. The man behind the noise, Tom Cascino, says his influences range from Outkast to Tycho, Modest Mouse to Tyler the Creator. He’s an all over the place hip hop eletro pop creator and “Jibberish” is a perfect introduction to his work. -Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor
