Dan Drohan races forwards on "Drocan!" new LP out 6.26

Drocan!, the latest offering by New York-based experimental electronic composer Dan Drohan, is billed as the B-side of the forthcoming You’re A Crusher — in this sense, it fulfills its purpose as the dark underbelly of Drohan’s explosive, percussion-driven visions. Tracks serpentine between elements synthetic and tactile in rapid fashion, executed in a Futurist fashion that leaves little space for the listener to catch their breath, yet despite this seemingly unstoppable energy, the entire record feels joyous; from the refrain of “Tokyo” to the stumbling fluorescent “Passwords,” Drohan, in collaboration with Mike Cantor, provides an experimental pop vamp that delights and surprises. Stream it below, and keep an eye out for the record’s A-side, dropping June 26th. Photo by Emile Bertherat

Dogs on Shady Lane reflects on sweet and sour notes in new single "18"

Something dreamy, something sad—that is the glow that radiates from “18,” the new indie-folk single from Providence’s Dogs on Shady Lane. The acoustic guitar strums that softly thread about during the track begin to brighten as dreamy electric guitar accents pile up, and the reverbed vocals of project leader Tori Hall gently reflect on life and its sweet and sour melodies. Refrains such as “thick as brick but stick stone, hurt/me less than silence and warn/but burning hands mend me like wool, so feel me up/I’m too old to be crying so much” hint at strength and vulnerability, at the physical and its memory. The new track by Dogs on Shady Lane has in it all the charm of the indie-folk genre: escapist sounds you can drift away to and lyrics that ground you to a reality you help to shape; if you need a moment away from your busy Monday, we have it for you streaming below. - Rene Cobar, photo by Kannetha Brown

Mysterious dark wave artist Lionel Boy drops video for "Lost"

Lionel Boy is a new signee to LA label Innovative Leisure, coming to Long Beach by way of Hawaii. His first release, the EP Who Is Dovey?, introduces his style which fuses grunge, shoegaze, and early 2010s dream pop together into an original form of darkwave. The first video released from the project is for the track "Lost", which mixes home video footage to the beat as it shifts from laid back and pondering to intense and cathartic. The full EP drops on June 26th, but you can check out the video for "Lost" below. - Will Sisskind
