Bodega is on the cover of the 54th issue of The Deli NYC!

If there's a turn of phrase we kind of detest here at The Deli is "taking the scene by storm." It's one of those generic prefab sentences that ring insincere. But then again, sometimes, some bands do that - kind of rare, but it happens, right? And sometimes, on a hot day like today, being lazy is kind of inevitable. So... yes! Brooklyn's Bodega are taking the NYC scene by storm with their blend of post-punk and pop and their super-fun live shows. That, and their somewhat familiar name, are the main reasons why they are on the cover of the new, spring 2018 issue of The Deli!

The issue, our 54th NYC one, is now up online and you can read it here.

It's an issue linked to the biggest event for musicians we've ever organized, which will host a Stompbox Exhibit, a Synth Expo and a Vintage Guitar Exchange in a Bushwick art gallery called Absurd Conclave - hope to see you there!

BOYO releases new single "Take Me Away" (feat. Dent May)

Robert Tilden ponders an imaginary escape on "Take Me Away." The glistening standalone track under his moniker BOYO, which features psych-pop local musician Dent May, sounds like a lost, starry-eyed sixties chart-topper. Like most of his recent full-length debut, Me, Again, it also mirrors feelings of isolation and depression, as his swelling guitar arpeggios unravel with an acquiescent calm. As for recording with May, he was both grateful and awestruck by the experience, an opportunity that came his way after they both met at a music festival they were both playing together.

"Take Me Away" is out now via Danger Collective. Juan Rodríguez

Smokescreens release lively new single "Someone New," tour around LA in June/July

Smokescreens came together over a shared love for the Flying Nun scene of the 1980's. And "Someone New," their latest single, is representative of that sound - there's the driving rhythm section, the circling guitar leads, and the tuneful chorus you can't forget for days. The four-piece may have dutifully done their homework, but there's no mimicry involved, as they make use of a classic pop sensibility that sounds as fresh as when The Clean shouted, "Tally Ho!"

"Someone New" is the latest single off of Smokescreens' forthcoming debut LP, Used to Yesterday, which is out on July 13 via Slumberland. Check them out on any of the following LA tour dates:

06/09 – Redwood Bar
06/22 - Love Song
07/13 – Monty Bar (Record Release)
07/19 – The Echoplex
