Listen to Atta Boy's "Shade" from upcoming long-awaited sophomore LP

After eight years since their last release, alt-Americana group Atta Boy will release their sophomore LP Big Heart Matters on September 11th. Following the surprise success of their debut Out of Sorts in 2012, Atta Boy's members pursued solo projects on both the West and East coasts, all the while coming up with ideas for a possible second record. They reconvened earlier this year to put together Big Heart Matters, and while times have made creating and releasing music difficult, Atta Boy have already put out two singles from the upcoming album. The first, "Devoted", hit streaming services in May, and the second, "Shade", came out in June. Both singles retain the folk feel of Out of Sorts, having the mood of the dog days of summer and the uncertainty of not just these past several months, but of life in general. With a big fan base behind them now, Atta Boy look forward to sharing the record with many more years of experience under their belts. Take a listen to "Shade" below, and look out for Big Heart Matters on September 11th. - Will Sisskind

Multi-instrumentalist Junior Mesa shares new single "Losing My Grip", plus video

At the beginning of the month, multi-instrumentalist Junior Mesa celebrated his 21st birthday with the release of two singles, "Losing My Grip" and "Creep". Junior broke out in the scene with his 2019 EP Peace, and was set to play SXSW and hit the road with fellow LA band Inner Wave this past spring. Though the performances never happened, the musical output remains steady; Junior's two new singles show two different emotions that have bubbled up during the past few months. "Losing My Grip" gets into a groove that fights off the quarantine blues, and the video shows Junior and his housemates jamming out together to keep up their spirits. "Creep", on the other hand, locks into a melancholic beat and has Junior singing about lost love. We've featured the video for "Losing My Grip" below; take a look. - Will Sisskind

Honyock releases their "#13" EP with video for "The Quarry"

Over the past few months, Honyock have been hard at work keep their musical output fresh. Their latest EP, #13, features four new tracks including "The Quarry", a single the band released back in June along with a lyric video. But Honyock -- like plenty of other bands -- have been making music for good. At the beginning of June, Honyock gave the track "Boutonnière" to Park The Van Records' banded against racism compilation, with all proceeds going towards the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. And while they had postponed the release of "The Quarry" and #13 at the beginning of June in order to give attention to more pressing matters, both the single and album are now out, along with the video for "The Quarry". You can watch the latter below. - Will Sisskind

Neo-grunge DIY act The Waking Point releases new single "Bad Girl"

DIY newcomer Sadie Belica released "Bad Girl" earlier this month; it's the latest single from her project The Waking Point in 2020. Leaning into the grunge vibe, "Bad Girl" portrays an abusive relationship through Belica's intense vocals and instrumentation. During the pandemic, Belica has put out music through which she airs out her most painful experiences; you can hear the trauma in every beat of "Bad Girl", which you can listen to below. After that, take a listen to Belica's "Rose Colored Violence", her debut release this year. - Will Sisskind

Amo Amo releases "Canta" EP; all proceeds go to Black Lives Matter LA

Amo Amo have released their new EP Canta, a five-track collection of new psych pop, with all proceeds from Bandcamp sales going towards Black Lives Matter LA. The record includes the previously released title track and the diversity-celebrating song "Colors", along with "Missed Connection", a song about finding ways to bridge divisions between people in a world of increasing tensions. And because Amo Amo knows that lyrics alone don't make a difference, they've committed to donating all of the sales on Bandcamp for Canta to Black Lives Matter LA to help lift up black voices across the community and the globe. Take a listen to the title track "Canta" below, and consider purchasing the album to stand with Amo Amo and support Black Lives Matter LA. - Will Sisskind
