NETHERLANDS scream into the void on "HOPE PORN," play Alphaville 7.22

Brooklyn’s NETHERLANDS makes the type of sludge rock we deserve in 2019—dark, synthbass heavy post-punk that confronts the consumerist elements of a society we all complain about (but in actuality do very little to change). From their gripes with excessive baby pics on social media (“NEGATIVE LIKES”) to the miasma of existence (“DEATHLESS”), their most recent EP HOPE PORN charts resonant lyrics for a pessimistic 21st Century mindset, all sung against the trudge of subwoofer-destroying electric instrumentation. It’s a maximalist reaction to our world, a sharp rebuke of the idea that things will get better, offering an insightful catharsis in its full-throated scream into the void. Rage on, and catch their sound at Alphaville on July 22nd, supporting Throwaway and Dead Tenants. -Connor Beckett McInerney

Below is a new twenty-band compilation from the Under The First Floor podcast, entitled Mixtape Vol 1. It features Deli Philly favorites such as Strawberry Runners, Yowler, Corey Flood, Radiator Hospital, TVO, MINT, and many more rad, fledgling artists. Their performances were laid down on four-track cassette in a basement. "Shitty recordings of bands you should like." All proceeds will be donated to RAICES, "a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees."

Tripp Lullaby's "Bundles of Joys" is an alternative-sounding spatial distortion, 30th-anniversary show 07.12

The men of Tripp Lullaby are in the middle of a time warp, an alternative-sounding spatial distortion: the band's 1990 recordings have been unearthed, remixed and remastered by Duane Trower for 2019 audiences looking to peek at New England's alt-rock beginnings. Tripp Lullaby was and still is based in Cape Cod, MA. The band's scene, nearly thirty years ago, included groups with names readers here may recognize such as The Freeze and Green Day. Bundles of Joys is the band's trip down memory lane, and it is loaded with classic punk beats, post-rock guitar flourishes, raw vocals, and now a luscious glaze of nostalgia. The band's compilation of tapes is indeed a time relic that gifts listeners an intimate experience with an alternative group that was then being defined by the seismic changes of the music world around them, by the winds of the sonic storm of grunge fast approaching. The band is celebrating their 30th anniversary with a record release show at Devil's Purse Brewing Company in South Dennis, MA on July 12th. We are streaming "Reality Sucks" for you below. - Rene Cobar
