New Track: "Not In The Sun" - Lunacy

Lunacy, the solo project from Nick Kulp (ex-Far-Out Fangtooth, ex-Creepoid), shared its second single off the forthcoming record, Life We Choose To Follow (Funeral Party Records). The EP's opener, "Not In The Sun," hides in the shadows of what feels like now a bleek future as a blanket of static haze is pulled over our heads to block out life. The album was recorded on a portable 4-track, with the help of vintage equipment, and will be available on cassette via Funeral Party Records on November 25, but you can pre-order it digitally below.

A Deli NYC premiere: Ghost King's 'Melting Sky / Inside Out' single

Brooklyn's Ghost King tickled our aural canal the right way this past spring with their debut album 'Bones,' which was immediately crowned with our NYC Record of the Month title, and we are thrilled to premiere their two track single entitled 'Melting Sky / Inside Out." Their sound is still as distorted and effected as it gets, in a way that's definitely nineties, but more reminiscent of the early Flaming Lips and Mercury Rev's fuzzy psychedelic lunacy than Pavement or Dinosaur Jr.'s pop slacking. Opening track 'Melting Sky' travels at high speed, hosting a slow vocal melody, and progressively building towards two psychedelic instrumental bridges. 'Inside Out' displays a poppier structure and catchier melody, but also a more dissonant arrangement, evolving, through a very early-Pink-Floydian transition, into a distorted bass driven, pummeling finale. They are both songs that will be fun to experience live when Ghost King will perform at Shea Stadium on 11.28 - do not miss!

Carroll LP Release Show at The Barbary Nov. 11

Psych-pop quartet Carroll impresses with the release of their sophomore record, As Far As Gardens Grow. The LP reveals serenading vocals, pristine keys, rhythmically vibrant guitars and bass lines, and whimsically-crafted songwriting from the Minneapolis transplants. The album was mixed by Jon Lo (The National, Sharon Van Etten), who was the inspiration behind their relocation, and it is now available via Shattered Orb Records. Carroll will be celebrating its arrival this evening at their Weathervane Music-presented album release party at The Barbary. They'll also be joined by Brooklyn-based garage-pop trio THICK and Petunia, the solo project from local singer-songwriter John Ryan. The Barbary, 951 Frankford Ave., 7pm, $7-$10, 21+ - Bill McThrill

Queen Jesus Record Release Show at The Storefront Nov. 10

The quintet of Queen Jesus celebrates their sophomore release, Tar Ranch, this evening at the Storefront. Step into the subdued, slow-burning songs nestled in a semi-psych-folk cabin. Slide guitar wafts over the cozy compact backend groove, and the heady conscious reflections of vocals that stickily expand in harmony. Maintaining that seductive somber state, the duo of Zack Robbins (Superheaven) & Josh Mackie (Idiot Forever), a.k.a. DARK MTNS, bathe in brisk but refreshing waters. Nina Ryser (of Palberta) shifts the perspective with the quirky, looming twists of a dream in discovery, and steaming from strength, the momentous songs of Madalean Gauze complete this billing. The Storefront, (Please contact one of the acts or venue for more info.), 8pm, All Ages - Michael Colavita
