Dream poppers Lunch Ladies unveil new single, play Shea Stadium on 02.15

Lucky for us that this NYC centric blog also covers New Jersey based artists... Yes because in recent years the Garden State has been churning out a lot of really talented indie pop bands, and we would be sorry if we couldn't highlight them. Lunch Ladies have been around since 2014 and belong to the "dream" branch of the most melodious of genres. Their music revolves around gentle, uptempo, electric orchestrations, but finds its overall tone through Cynthia Rittenbach's uber melancholic melodies. The band just unveiled new single 'Pick Yourself Up,'  from upcoming sophomore full length 'Down on Sunset Strip,' scheduled for a March release. New Yorkers will be able to see them live at Shea Stadium on February 15th.

New Static Mountain Album Available for Streaming & Purchase

Psych rockers Static Mountain quietly released a new album at the end of 2016, which they titled Dream Boutique. Dedicated to their friends and family, "who have known any personal, professional, conditional, confessional, artisanal, or quasi-political struggle this past year," the Philly four-piece takes us on a guitar-driven musical excursion, laced with airy vocal harmonies and moments of contemplation. The album was mostly recorded by the band's very own Matt Williams at The HAUS, with addition drums recorded laid down at Spice House Sound, and mastering done by Jeff Lucci (of Air is Human).

New Music Video: "Ricky (Caught Me Tryin')" - The Spirit of the Beehive

We are happy to hear that The Spirit and the Beehive's highly anticipated forthcoming album, Pleasure Suck, now has an official release date. Due out March 24 via Tiny Engines, the band just shared the LP's lead single, "Ricky (Caught Me Tryin')". The track is also accompanied by a seriously tripped-out video, which came from the mind of Nnamdi Ogbonnaya. The Spirit and the Beehive will be performing next in Philly on February 20 at Baird Mansion Atrium as part of a rad lineup that also includes Naomi Punk, PC Worship, and Dark Mtns

We dig Softspot's new single 'Abalone' from upcoming LP, see them at Union Pool on 1/22

A gentle sweetness emerges within the deeply resonant female vocals on “Abalone,” the preview track (streaming below) from Brooklyn-based Softspot’s forthcoming album “Clearing.”  While open guitar chords provide counter-melody and the simple bass line drives its rhythmic center, a churning percussive track underneath parallels the same mysterious wonderment of penultimate Kate Bush/Hounds Of Love track “Running Up That Hill.”  Harmony vocals appear at crucial points within the emotional arc, dreamily elongating end of line words. At over five minutes in length, there is plenty of room for extended instrumental passages featuring bright guitar figures, deeper bass only transactions and swelling synths.  An extended outro features an angular time signature that ultimately gives way to a beat-less ambience. This is an outstanding track from a full album set for a February release on Arrowhawk Records.  The band will appear live at Union Pool on 1/22 as part of the (le) poisson rouge presents series with Alpenglow and Norwegian Arms. - Dave Cromwell

We added this song to The Deli's playlist of Best songs by emerging NYC artists - check it out!
