Weekend Warrior, April 7 - 9

The world continues its trend of being a chaotic and confusing place. So as the week reaches its tail end, the Pilam Human BBQ XXXIX will be offering a refreshing daylong reprieve this Saturday combining music, eats and whatever your debaucherous heart desires. The noon till midnight billing will include nearly 20 acts in all. Among them, the incisive lyricism of Sad13 delivered on an enthusiastic uplifting danceable platform and the emotive electro-pop/rock of Brandon Can’t Dance, who hovers between a solemn solitude and then swims in a sea of infectious grooves. With a new album Dark Nuclear Bogs set to arrive on April 28, the candy-coated psych-carnival of Laser Background will alter one’s perspective, while the reverberating, relatable melodies of Clique lock into your head as will the spellbinding narratives of this year’s Deli Philly Best Emerging Alt Rock Artists Poll winner, Curtis Cooper.  These are but a small sampling of the lineup, which can view in full HERE, so head over to Pilam for a day of sonic sustenance. - Michael Colavita

Sharkmuffin Offers Single from Upcoming Sophomore Effort 'Tsuki'

Sharkmuffin is a band with a variety of sonic influences. They make high energy grunge tunes that pack a punch, but decorate them with psychedelic, 60s style guitar riffs reminiscent of beach pop classics like The Byrds or Jefferson Airplane. Despite their retro sensibilities, they manage to stay culturally relevant. Their latest music video for “Little Bird,” a cut off their upcoming sophomore effort, is an ironic narrative about the modern urbanite trying to make a way in the world. With huge crowds incessantly following their beloved Big Bird, there’s an underlying commentary on a generational tendency to hurry up and matter. Sharkmuffin’s newest album, Tsuki, will be out via Little Dickman Records May 5th, 2017. Be sure to catch the release show at Sunnyvale on May 3rd. - Andrew Strader

New Ecstatic Vision Album Available for Streaming

Raw Rock Fury, the new album from psych-rockers Ecstatic Vision, will be released via Relapse Records on April 7; however, the wait is over because the album is currently streaming over at Noisey. The band unleashes their unrelenting charge of backend rhythm, sorcerer-style, guttural vocals, projected from the mountaintop or down in the dungeon with blistering blasts of saxophone and stealthy floating flutes. The concoction pulls listeners into an intoxicating brand of heavy, one which soars toward the cosmos, simultaneously exorcising demons. Ecstatic Vision is scheduled to perform on Saturday, April 15 at the First Unitarian Church on a bill that also includes EyeHateGod, Rosetta, and Moros.

New Music Video: "Parallel Nightmares" - Moor Mother

Camae Ayewa, a.k.a. Moor Mother, takes to the woods in her latest lyric video for "Parallel Nightmares," with co-director Bob Sweeney. Found on 2016's Fetish Bones (Don Giovanni Records), the track comingles with the shaky, blurry, black & white footage in ominous fashion that feels more frightening than a hike with the folks of Blair Witch Project or doctored video sightings of Slender Man. It's a match made in your deepest, darkest fears. Moor Mother is set to kickoff her European tour tomorrow at the World Minimal Music Festival in Amsterdam. (Photo by Bob Sweeney)
