New Track: "Grasping the Void" - Ecstatic Vision

Ecstatic Vision has a new single, “Grasping the Void,” which is featured on their forthcoming album FOR THE MASSES, due out September 20 via Relapse Records. A chugging bass and bright flurries of flute coexist, creating a weighted, spacey sound. The commanding, tunneling tone of Doug Sabolik's vocals and the fuzz of guitar pulls you further into the vortex. It’s a heavy-psych excursion that you’ll definitely want to explore. Divey showcases serious sonic substance with new record "Beautiful Zero"

As far as DIY productions go Beautiful Zero, the latest record from Providence’s Divey (real name Alex Garzone) is a brief, but substantial listening experience carefully threaded to stimulate the mind. From the hypnotic vocal delivery and incessant electric guitar strum of “Call Me on the Phone Tonight” to the massive kick drum that drives “What U Do” the sounds stick to you as much as they stick with you. The immersive experience is generated by the smooth production of Garzone and friend Frank Mullen: the record is given an air of simplicity and bedroom-recording imagery while layering with deceptive skill. Divey is an artist on the fringe of the electro-rock revival currently spearheaded by artists like Des Rocs, which is excellent because it means he is free to go at it his way. Not easily labeled and engaging, the music of Divey is a modern treat your ears will thank you for indeed. We are streaming “What U Do” for you below. - Rene Cobar

Weekend Warrior - July 12 - 14

Dreamswell will be celebrating its debut full-length LP SPOILED with a performance this evening at Boot & Saddle. Haunting, weighted ambiance quakes and shudders throughout the album. The songs sonically realize ominous, brutal, bombarding tones that melodically shred within treacherous terrains. Somehow during those nightmarish, ominous sequences, as the percussion pulverizes, one finds a peaceful, placid, shoegazing perspective. Dreamswell will be supported by the raw, raucous, mesmerizing metal of Witching and the rhythmically rolling, synth-fueled darkwave of SOLD, as well as NYC’s Stay at Home Dads. – Michael Colavita

Fresh Buzz: Ghost Funk Orchestra Releases Single, "Skin I'm In"

The output of NYC-based Ghost Funk Orchestra is becoming increasingly more sophisticated, and the group is also playing more frequently this year, which is always a good sign. Their most recent LP release, A Song For Paul (a band member's grandfather) is a complex matter propelled by a 10-piece band comprising horns, woodwinds, strings, keys, a tambourine, on top of the expected drums/bass/guitar. Their latest single "Skin I'm In" is an excersize of restrained psychedelia at times reminiscent of unforgettable British band Broadcast.

Featuring effected vocals that span layers of groovy orchestral textures, the single seemlessly blends elements from ganres as disparate as funk, noise rock and Eastern music. This is one of the coolest track we stumbled upon this year; you can check out Ghost Funk Orchestra at Elsewhere on July 30th at 8 PM. - Susan Moon
