The Hands Resist Him

Doom Metal trio The Hands Resist Him released their debut full-length album, Stone Hands, earlier this month. This is the group formed by guitarist/Bassist Eric Mayer, who is now joined by Alex McGady (vocals, guitar), and Ashwinn Torke (drums).

The album’s opening track and lead single, “Collapse”, is a ferocious 11 minute journey through the world of dark and explosive metal. It is also a great introduction to what this trio can do if you are not familiar with their 2018 EP, “Taker"

New Track: "Grasping the Void" - Ecstatic Vision

Ecstatic Vision has a new single, “Grasping the Void,” which is featured on their forthcoming album FOR THE MASSES, due out September 20 via Relapse Records. A chugging bass and bright flurries of flute coexist, creating a weighted, spacey sound. The commanding, tunneling tone of Doug Sabolik's vocals and the fuzz of guitar pulls you further into the vortex. It’s a heavy-psych excursion that you’ll definitely want to explore. Catch the Philly quartet at Underground Arts on Thursday, August 1, with Torche and Wear Your Wounds! (Photo by Gene Smirnov)

Weekend Warrior - July 12 - 14

Dreamswell will be celebrating its debut full-length LP SPOILED with a performance this evening at Boot & Saddle. Haunting, weighted ambiance quakes and shudders throughout the album. The songs sonically realize ominous, brutal, bombarding tones that melodically shred within treacherous terrains. Somehow during those nightmarish, ominous sequences, as the percussion pulverizes, one finds a peaceful, placid, shoegazing perspective. Dreamswell will be supported by the raw, raucous, mesmerizing metal of Witching and the rhythmically rolling, synth-fueled darkwave of SOLD, as well as NYC’s Stay at Home Dads. – Michael Colavita

Hawkeyes are a 6 piece instrumental space rock band. Their tunes are layered with many sonic elements. This psych rock sextet’s latest release is a split EP with The Radiation Flowers. Track 1 is Hawkeyes’ “Atom Heart Motherfuckers Never Learn” which has some atmospheric tones to it while being extremely doom metal influenced. The track will make your mind spin in a slow, droning fashion for the entire 12 minutes. Hawkeyes will be performing live at The Horseshoe Tavern on Saturday July 20th alongside Ian Blurton’s Future Now, Espanola and Head. – Kris Gies

CAZADOR invites listeners into its turbulent world with new single "Skeleton Crew," plays Middle East 09.07

Boston's CAZADOR is a vivid symbol of everything that has made progressive rock a nearly religious listening experience for so many: the band uses ear-piercing guitar riffs, break-neck pace changes, ambient sounds, and intense vocals to stimulate all senses, to possess souls. The band's latest single "Skeleton Crew" showcases the group's tendency to mix up its viscera-shaking breakdowns with psychedelic atmospheric stretches that are a nod to progressive rock's genesis bands like Pink Floyd and Yes. The single is part of the band's upcoming record Failure to Thrive, due out July 12th. For progressive rock and metal zealots, the single is a promise of a record that deserves praise, recognition for its commitment to the modernization of the sometimes obscure genre. We are streaming "Skeleton Crew" below in anticipation of the new album and the band's upcoming show at Middle East on September 7th. - Rene Cobar
