Chameleon Culture play Thunder Road on July 7th

July 7th is your chance to catch the self-described "eclectic sonic-punch rock and experimental folk band," Chamelon Culture. The group prides itself on their ability to take the listener through a musical journey, constantly teetering between slow and mellow parts that seamlessly transition into high energy peaks, combined with sophisticated arrangements and intricate lyrics. Since their full-length album was released in January 2016, the band has being playing frequently in they home town of Boston, but recently also performed single dates in New York and Chicago. You can prepare for the upcoming show by taking a listen to their Bandcamp page, featuring catchy and pulsating songs like "Nothing Special," which opens with sparse strumming and is then layered with another guitar, before culminating in a huge punch of all the instruments playing at once. The music has very danceable and high energy moments, which is promising for a fun show. More infoand tickets can be found here

IGBO unveils video for 'Gimmie Gimmie' + works on new music

At first listen, music snobs will grope toward an easy classification of Afrobeat for Brooklyn collective IGBO (who made it into our Best of NYC Emerging Artists list earlier this year). However, upon continued listening, new and unexpected levels continue to emerge from 60s psychedelia to 70s funk. Just as their first EP appears to deconstruct an African Ethnic group’s name into a spectrum of trippy colors, their music is a chilly chill stroll through a mescaline tinged dance party. There is definitely a little Fela in IGBO’s trunk, but their flag flaps to its own beat. Check out their recent video for single 'Gimmie Gimmie' - the band is currently working on new music. - BrokeMC

Preorder CAPYAC's New Album and Listen to Their Latest Sexfunk Single Here

Last year's Deli Austin Artist of the Year CAPYAC is back early in 2016 with a new single, and the music is as glittery and spacefunky as ever. This time though, the duo shakes up things in its attempts at making this universe a sexier place with every bit of power they can muster by having Potion, an alter ego of CAPYAC instrumental magician Delwin Campbell, commanding the spaceship with his debut CAPYAC vocal performance on gorgeous track "Talk About."

Potion's performance fits right in with the CAPYAC futuresexfunk vibe, but whereas the regular crooning of P. Sugz, aka Eric Peana, is ultradynamic and soulful, Potion comes in with a more subdued yet deeply confident and damned smooth timbre that is every bit as fitting to the coolness-dripping funk vibe that CAPYAC cultivates with seeming effortlessness.

It's just more goodness from these guys, who seem to be everywhere these days with their funky boat parties, future-leaning fashion shows and Kickstarter for preordering their full-length album, and it does our groovy hearts good to know that the reigning kings of Austin music (in The Deli's eyes at the very least, and with any justice those of the rest of the world sometime soon) are at it as hard and smooth as ever with the delicious beats and funky feats.

Listen below, and if you're liking what you hear, preorder these guys' full-length at their Kickstarter here.

Ludwigs bring their funk-pop to The Knit on 04.18

Those familiar with the funk-pop of '80s British band Simply Red may find a welcome reference in the celan, staccato funk guitar permeating 'QLC,' by Brooklyn quartet Ludwig (streaming below). The group doesn't quite play the mainstream card the way Simply Red did, but in their debut album 'To Be Continued' they do offer well crafted songs through a formula that has the potential to intrigue many. You can see them live at the Knitting Factory on April 18th.
