Tara Beier Wraps Recording, Gently Rocks Hugh's Room

Vancouver-born Tara Beier is an impressive tour-de-force - actor, director, and one hell of a singer-songwriter. Last year, Beier independently released her debut EP, Purple Trees, which was met with great reception and put her on the map as one of Canada’s unique folk acts. Beier’s combination of styles and sounds, ranging from simple acoustic ballads to catchy pop-like melodies prove that she can take any vibe and truly make it her own. The song Mayan Sun in particular has a sound that just sticks in your head. Earlier this year she recorded her upcoming album,  Hero & the Sage (release yet to be dated), and released the title track. It’s got a smooth and memorable acoustic melody that helps show off Beier’s impressive vocal range and talent. If I were you, I’d make sure to check out Tara Beier along with The Silverthorns at Hugh’s Room on November 30th.

Lindsie Feathers @ Elbo Room

Lindsie Feathers is releasing her latest full-length album, Neon Renaissance, this week. The album has been a labor of love for Feathers over the last two years, and combines an array styles and themes. The album has an overall folk and storytelling feel to it, but the stories are blanketed over developing and creative tracks. An example is the protest song that Feathers allowed us to share below, "Be Good To Me". This track has a reggae feel at its core, but filtered through rustic charm that is very refreshing.

You can catch Lindsie Feathers at Double Door on 11/24 for a free show and at Elbo Room on 11/27 for the album release event. [photo credit -- Jennifer Hardin]

NJ's Charlie Szytk premieres music video for 'Wed'

A little less than a month after releasing his two-part debut LP 'The Arc,' New Jersey folk-rock musician Charlie Szytk now premieres the hauntingly poignant music video (playing below) for album track "Wed." A worrisome dream of romantic regret and nocturnal solitude, the crisp clip shows Szytk strolling through a quiet town and spotting, or imagining, a possible former lover, going onto dance with her amongst friends at a potentially fictional party. Side Saddle's Ian McGuiness co-produced the guitar-blistered song for these visuals and, like the video for his own band's "Legs for Days," this one impresses with its subtle devastation. While Charlie Szytk doesn't currently have any upcoming shows listed, 'The Arc' is available on Bandcamp. - Zach Weg

Boston rocker Emily Grogan shares anthemic 'Join Together' off forthcoming album "Strings of Light"

Melding the innocence of "Imagine" and the force of Radiohead's "Karma Police," Boston singer/songwriter Emily Grogan's "Join Together" (streaming below) off her forthcoming new album 'Strings of Light' is an electric call to arms. Fronting a battalion of hard drums and zinging guitars, the strong-voiced Grogan deflects the ploys of authorities while surging towards freedom with her fellow strivers. Spiked with the warmth that can be heard in pop, though, this rock song doesn't shove but rather nestles the listener to attention. While Emily Grogan doesn't currently have any upcoming shows listed, keep watch on her Facebook for future announcements. - Zach Weg

Pageant to Release Sophomore EP "Endless Sun" 11.13

Nashville-based folk pop 4-piece Pageant are set to release their sophomore EP "Endless Sun" this Friday 11.13, and since we got a sneak peek (our favorite part of this gig,) you can take it from us, it's a dandy!

Featuring a sibling vocal duo atop acoustic-driven poppy choruses and building rhythms with splashes of auxiliary horns and strings, the EP is earthy and personal with universal themes of love and life. Their single "Don't Stop the Rain" highlights the group's folksy roots with call-and-response style vocals and harmonica for good measure, while the EP's last track "It's Your Love"  is a piano-laden celebration that will fill your soul to the brim.

Check out the heart-warming video below for "Beautiful (Caught Up in the Moment)," featuring actors from Chicago's legendary Second City improv enterprise, and grab your tickets for Pageant's release show THIS FRIDAY 11.13 at Left Plus Right Studio with Kyle Cox, Brother Sister Stone and Brian Revels here. -Caroline Bowman
