Catch Big Huge's blast from the past at BK Bazaar on 04.15

Bands like New York’s own BIG HUGE seem to exist sometimes for the single purpose of making you remember the past, only to suddenly find yourself relishing in its fascination. Power pop was an American counterpunch to the British Invasion of the '60s and in their 2017 record CRUEL WORLD BIG HUGE channels it beautifully. With the fun and upbeat tempos of power pop heroes like Cheap Trick well ingrained into songs like “WENT BAD” and “LOST CLASSIC” the group takes full liberty to crank up the style to one hundred with fuzzy vocals and crunchy guitar licks that will shine proto-garage undertones at you. This New York City quintet remains above everything faithful to themselves, catch them on April 15th at Brooklyn Bazaar. - Rene Cobar

New Ben Loomis EP Available for Streaming & Download

Ben Loomis is the recording project of Matt Roth. Roth’s recent collaboration with Pulgas’s Simon Martinez resulted in the EP Hoss Flat, a small but robust collection of songs released back in December. Frogs picks up from where Roth left off, inviting the listener into an array of modest pop tunes that exhibit slick grooves, crisp production, and a sophisticated sonic palette. Each track begins with a hook, immediately drawing you in and spurring a curiosity to hear out how the songs will evolve. The EP showcases Roth’s uncanny ability to explore genre conventions with a lucidity that gracefully lands each musical leap of faith; each track continually advances into new territories without feeling like the narrative is being stretched too thin. Perfect music to soundtrack a winter thaw, a refreshing burst of sunlight amidst the anticipation of spring. (Photo by Sarah Milberger)  - Josh Kelly

Debut Knifeplay LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Pearlty is the debut full-length album from the Tj Strohmer-led outfit Knifeplay. A delicate dusting of shoegazing atmosphere melds with breezy introspection. Hovering weightless over the top of one’s thoughts and then crashing climatically down on points of emphasis, there’s a subdued, somber, tranquilizing affect. It hits you in what seems like slow gradual motion, but the blow leaves a mark. (Photo by Doug Dulgarian)

New Chronic Anxiety/Dialer Split LP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Chronic Anxiety and Dialer share space on their split release via Bunny Cat Records & SRA Records. Chronic Anxiety’s side is stacked with jarring, anxious, observational vocals, a continuous, primal, rhythmic push, and specs of chaotic noise, with a tenacious/groovy dichotomy. Dialer combines a synth-fueled musical attack, with raw, roaring vocals, revealing a harsh electro-punk reality. You can catch their record release celebration on Saturday, March 16 at Time Cube, where they'll be supported by Cult Objects and Pit Hair.

New Sadurn EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

The duo of Genevieve DeGroot and Jon Cox, a.k.a. Sadurn, recently released an EP Gleam, via Dead Definition Records. Delicate, acoustic guitar and ukulele accentuate DeGroot’s impassioned, silky vocals. Bedroom-folk songwriting addresses personal concerns, while simultaneously capturing a soothing, daydreamy quality and captivating calm. You can find the pair this evening upstairs at World Cafe Live as part of a lineup that also includes Mother Moses and Americanadian.
