Mood Music: New Move - "The City Life (ft. Chanti Darling & Ripley Snell)"

Dishing out insatiable classic pop for the last five or so years, New Move go about their creative exhibition employing hints of glam, indie rock and lurid doo wop. Their new album, Back in the Habit, drops today and it features a variety of local artists, including Illmaculate, King Who, Radiation City and more. For the track we're sharing today, we're focusing on this banger with Chanti Darling and Ripley Snell on the mic.

"The City Life" has an interesting beat from Cameron Spies on keys, Jesse Bettis on guitar and bass, and a soulful vocal melody from Chanti Darling that lasts throughout the track, playing with some very silkily delivered bars from Snell. Everything about it is just delightful, and worthy of many repeated plays.

New Move are having a release show for Back in the Habit tonight at Mississippi Studios along with some sets from Y La Bamba and Hustle & Drone. Minden, Boone Howard and the Domestics will all be making guest appearances as well.

New Track: "All Around The Neighborhood" - Pilkington

One easily gets swept up by “All Around The Neighborhood,” the latest from Pilkington. Instrumentally dashing through the streets, the song blossoms in power-pop splendor before stripping back to a duel vocal tug and pull. You can find them performing next in Philly on February 9 at MilkBoy, sharing a bill with Carroll and Bad Bad Hats.

Bryson Cone's "Desire" Leaves Us Desiring His Debut

It's likely you've heard the smooth croon of Bryson Cone before. Be it as the frontman of Fog Father, an appearing face in Reptaliens or belting out all the slick R&B jams at your local karaoke spot, Bryson Cone has got a voice rich like butter and a knack for catchily hitting some keys. If his other projects weren't proof enough, his first few solo singles sure are, especially the one coming off of his upcoming debut.

"Desire," which officially came out a few days ago, is a lush art-pop diddy with intriguing effects and a lyrical story centered around unrequited proclivity and the search for a resolution. The song digs deeper than its colorful tunage let's off, layering airy synths with meaningful elements.

Expect Bryson Cone's debut album sometime this Spring.

Spend Valentine's Day with The Doped Up Dollies at O'Brien's Pub

Boston vocal trio, The Doped Up Dollies, first garnered the spotlight as the backing singers for ska/punk legends Big D and the Kids Table.  They have since set out on their own and released a debut record in The New Way Out, a mesmerizing blend of roots rock, Motown R&B, dub, and revival ska, coming together to create a new genre: "stroll".  This time, members of Big D take a backseat as the supporting band for these three powerhouse vocalists.  The New Way Out is pure fun and incessantly danceable.  Experience it live on 2/14 at O'Brien's Pub, with support from The Pomps, Mickey Rickshaw, and Whoopi Sticks. -Brian Varneke
