New Music Video: "The Gray Tower" - Goshen Electric Co.

Strand Of Oaks’s Tim Showalter has joined forces with the surviving members of Magnolia Electric Co. to form Goshen Electric Co. as a tribute to Jason Molina. The collaborative project has recorded a pair of Songs: Ohia tracks, which will be released as a 7’’ on November 2 via Dead Oceans. Filmed by Colin Kerrigan & Rocco Avallone (Out Of Town Films), the video for “The Gray Tower,” with its behind-the-curtain, black & white setting, captures the genuine, heartfelt emotion and power of the song. It's soulful, at-home folk that simply kicks ass.

Weekend Warrior, July 28 - 30

Over the next three days, the musical fulcrum will largely focus on XPoNential Music Fest. A balanced assemblage of established and emerging talent from near and far settle onto the waterfront. Unfortunately, inclement weather may wash over Hurry’s set. However, Friday still has plenty on its tab – the encompassing reverberating power/ease of Angel Olsen coupled with the emotionally-exposed, energy-expelling rock of Hop Along and the stellar storytelling of Conor Oberst and Wilco. Saturday will culminate with local stalwart Amos Lee digging in with Preservation Hall Jazz Band. However, the meditative reverie of The Dove & The Wolf usher in the day, while Strand of Oaks roots itself in earnest, endearing narratives that blossom and flourish, gathering anthemic reach. On Sunday, the genre-melding hip-hop collective of Hardwork Movement and the Americana trio of No Good Sister help shape the day, reinforced by the bright Americana of Hurray For The Riff Raff and the rugged alt-country of Drive By Truckers. – Michael Colavita

New Video: "Radio Kids" (AB Session) - Strand of Oaks

Strand of Oaks strips away the arena-rock veneer of his latest single "Radio Kids," opting for an intensely intimate solo performance on a piano for the video series AB Sessions, recorded in Brussels. At its core, you find a song that really doesn't stray far away from the deeply haunting ballads found on earlier releases like Leave Ruin and Pope Killdragon, which is certainly a good thing for those just tuning in. His new LP Hard Love officially comes out February 17 via Dead Oceans, and he'll be back on stage in Philly on Friday, March 10 at Union Transfer.

Strand of Oaks' Winter Classic 2016 at Boot & Saddle Dec. 2 - 4

After a tumultuous year and half of touring the country in support of his heavily lauded LP Heal, Strand of Oaks returned to Philly last December for an intimate Winter Classic series at Boot & Saddle. The event was two nights of anything goes, which allowed Timothy Showalter the chance to unwind among friends and perform extended cuts of songs, do an assortment of covers, and even try his hand at some comedy. The end result was so successful that the local area singer-songwriter will be coming back to the South Philly venue for the Winter Classic 2016, and it will now feature three nights of shows under the same format. Showalter also just announced that he will be releasing a new album, Hard Love, on February 17 via Dead Oceans, and shared its lead single, “Radio Kids,” so expect him to be heavily armed with new tunes. Strand of Oaks will be supported each night by the rock ‘n’ roll show review stylings of Jason Anderson. Boot & Saddle, 1131 S. Broad St., 8:30pm, $15, 21+ (Photo by Alex Crick) - Bill McThrill

Weekend Warrior, December 11 - 13

After touring with a full band in support of his latest album HEAL (Dead Ocean) and being on road opening for My Morning Jacket, prolific indie/folk-rock singer-songwriter Strand of Oaks returns for a double dose of intimate, SOLD OUT, solo shows at Boot & Saddle tonight and tomorrow. During his Winter Classix, Tim Showalter will be performing a full on assortment of originals, covers, and collaborations with some of his favorite musicians. On night one, hell be joined by Jason Anderson, who has a new project called Tracks and will be backing Oaks for his sets each night on guitar and keys. And on the second evening, Showalter will be joined by jack of all music trades Jeff Ziegler with Strand of Oaks drummer Mike Sneeringer attempting comedy. Haha…right on!
