Spill Record Release Show at Boot & Saddle Dec. 20

The beginning of the week often suffers from a monotony of motion as individually one falls back into a robot-like routine. However, Boot & Saddle offers a temporary respite this evening. Celebrating their newly released full-length debut Top Ten, available via No Sleep Records, Spill headlines a stacked show. Balancing the explosive force of emotive energy, which spikes in sparks of anthem-esque choruses and downhill instrumental surges, with melody-oriented laments, the sound fleshes reflective anecdotes in catchy, polished flourishes. Riding the riff-and-rumble, pop-and-punch feel, Thin Lips infectiously slip into a casually precise groove, lifting with their locked-in raw refinement. The fuzz-ringing possessive thunder of Straw Hats and the stretching shimmering emotives of Lancaster’s Seasonal help to shape an evening that will be further sweetened by the serene sincerity of an acoustic Kississippi set. Boot & Saddle 1131 S. Broad St., 7:15pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Can't Keep Cool" - Spill

Take a listen to “Can’t Keep Cool,” the lead single from Top Ten, the debut full-length LP from Spill, which premiered at Brooklyn Vegan. Lyrically describing the bottling up of emotions and almost sinking at a pool party whilst seeking temporary distraction, it is surrounded by pulsating percussion and the fuzzy punch of guitar. The song dips into murky waters; however, an anthem-esque, universal energy results. Top Ten is set for release on December 16 via No Sleep Records.

Boy Lawyer EP Release Show at KFN June 2

The trio of Boy Lawyer celebrates the release of their new EP Decades Don't Matter tonight, as a part of a locally linked lineup at Kung Fu Necktie. Compromised of Enrique Gasparini, Steve Fitzpatrick, and Pat Higgins (all of whom have previous ties to the now defunct Dead Tenors), the new project expands upon instrumentally thematic threads, inviting a fresh open-air sound, with crisp, stretching lines, and the boost of backing vocal harmony feeling near with an eye on the far. This evening, they’ll be joined by the genre-boundless gravitational pull of Colins “Bear’” Regisford, a.k.a. The City & I, while the energetic emotive bursts of Spill and the exposed fragile punk rush of Mumblr, whose new record The Never Ending Get Down is due out June 10 via Fleeting Youth Records, cement this show into place. Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St., 8pm, $6, 21+ - Michael Colavita

Straw Hats & Spill Opening for Kississippi at PhilaMOCA Feb. 18

Garage-punk trio Straw Hats, featuring members of The Districts, and indie-rock outfit Spill, which houses former members of Placeholders and We Were Skeletons, set out on the road together earlier this month for what was dubbed their "Valentine's Tour." After tearing up DIY spots in the South and Midwest, the gang will be coming home tonight to a talent-filled, polarizing bill at PhilaMOCA. Headlining this evening will be Kississippi, who has enchanted the blogosphere with their latest EP We Have No Future, We're All Doomed (Softspeak Records). You'll also find Maine transplants Friendship warming things up with their simmering folk tunes. Come enjoy the peaks and valleys that will be traveled throughout the evening! PhilaMOCA, 531 N. 12th St., 7:30pm, $7-$10, All Ages (Straw Hats Photo by Gilbo Gabbins) - Alexis V.
