New The Retinas EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

Yellow Rocket, the latest musical vessel from The Retinas, was recently launched. Whether simmering in a stargazing state of reflection or surging toward the unknown, the power trio retains a gravitational pull. Disseminated from space, the garage rockers balance hushed valleys with adrenaline-laced peaks. Cultivating an ebb and flow between the here and the out there, Yellow Rocket sparkles on our radar.

New Music Video: "Yellow Rocket" - The Retinas

The Retinas's forthcoming EP Yellow Rocket is set to take off tomorrow, and the power trio will be heading out this weekend on its fall tour in support. As a precursor, the group posted a new video for its title-track. Calming vocals radiate as footage of old-school space vessels, moon imagery, and a bit of kung fu fighting are integrated with seductive images of ladies and wonders of nature, creating a strange yet compelling sequence, produced by Big Mouth Philly. That floating-passenger approach shifts gears as the afterburners kick in, increasing the tempo and the rapid-fire rpms of the clips. It’s a wild race to the finish line!

Weekend Warrior, March 16 - 18

This Saturday evening, the garage-rock trio of Tom McHugh, Anthony Fulginitti, and Andy Silverman, a.k.a. The Retinas, will be commemorating the release of their new EP ANDY (Pho Realz Records), with a rip-roaring performance at Ortlieb’s. The band tools within a diverse-range of sonic textures from loose exuberance, to a more personal scaled-back yet powerful reverb-shaking discharge of emotion. Working the sliding scale, gearing up to break free, and gathering those of a similar mind within united-infectious melodies stoked with a psychedelic candle, The Retinas launch into the psych-pop stratosphere that still feels comfortably at home. Joining in the festivities, the quartet of Stoops stitch together tight melodic turns of phrase, gradually heating up as those words stick in one’s head and the body’s tension dissipates. With a new EP Glow Worm set for release on April 1, the electro-folk hybrid of Seth Carpenter, a.k.a. Bucolic, will set things into motion. – Michael Colavita

New Music Video: "Necklace Stone" - The Retinas

The power trio of The Retinas recently shared a new song, “Necklace Stone”, which was recorded & mixed by Keith Abrams (Pine Barons, The Districts), to close out the year. Levelheaded vocals create a sense of calm, swaying seas, counterbalanced by the choppy grit of pace-establishing backend and escalating guitar. That steady build reaches unexpected heights in short order. Its sock-puppet video (with accompanying feline) playfully circles the globe.

Weekend Warrior, October 13 - 15

Dear Deli Readers,

It’s been an honor covering Philly’s underground music scene for the past nine years, and we truly appreciate all who have been so supportive of our site and our mission. And of course, mucho love goes out to the all the local area musicians who have been kind enough to share their personal art with us. Without you, The Deli would certainly not exist. (Well, maybe in some form or another, but we might be covering some of our other loves like food, weed or puppies. ;-)

We truly enjoy taking this time to celebrate our wonderful Philly music community with you, so join us this Saturday night at PhilaMOCA for The Deli Philly’s 9th Anniversary Bash! This year, we will be donating all proceeds from the event to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit organization “dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable member of our society,” and we’d like to thank Deli faves The Retinas, Them Jones, and So Totally for donating their time and talents to entertain all of us for the evening. Now, if you’ve attended any of our anniversary celebrations in the past, then you know how we do it. If not, more deets are available HERE, but there will also be plenty of surprises that we can’t mention just yet.

Looking forward to partying down with you soon!

Cheers,

Q.D. Tran & The Deli Staff

P.S.

Shout out to Modern Baseball (who may be performing their final shows for the foreseeable future this weekend at Union Tranfer) and former Deli Anniversary alums Suburban Living (who will be returning home from tour with Frankie Rose, this Sunday at Ortlieb’s)!
