Queen Jesus Record Release Show at The Storefront Nov. 10

The quintet of Queen Jesus celebrates their sophomore release, Tar Ranch, this evening at the Storefront. Step into the subdued, slow-burning songs nestled in a semi-psych-folk cabin. Slide guitar wafts over the cozy compact backend groove, and the heady conscious reflections of vocals that stickily expand in harmony. Maintaining that seductive somber state, the duo of Zack Robbins (Superheaven) & Josh Mackie (Idiot Forever), a.k.a. DARK MTNS, bathe in brisk but refreshing waters. Nina Ryser (of Palberta) shifts the perspective with the quirky, looming twists of a dream in discovery, and steaming from strength, the momentous songs of Madalean Gauze complete this billing. New Queen Jesus EP Available for Streaming & Purchase

There is an enjoyable ease found in the latest EP from Queen Jesus, Tar Ranch. Now, we're not exactly sure if the "tar" in the title is a reference to heroin (with the pill on the cover possibly representing its pharmaceutical equivalent - oxycontin), but the languid five-song album feels awfully fitting to zone out to under the influence of the powerful opiates. Or maybe, our minds are generally just hardwired towards drugs. Whatever the case might be; Tar Ranch, which was recorded and mixed by Matt Schimelfenig, is an impressive sophomore release from the Philly quintet, and it will be available on cassette via Uncle Rats. Queen Jesus are also celebrating their release this Thursday, November 10 at The Storefront with DARK MTNS, Nina Ryser, and Madalean Gauze.

The Weaks Providing Power & Polish at Everybordy Hits March 8

Sunday night - one could sit back waiting as Monday lurks in the horizon, or you could stretch the weekend for all it’s worth and head over to Everybody Hits where rambunctious rockers The Weaks spearhead a four-pronged attack. With their debut LP Bad Year scheduled for release April 7 via Lame-O Records, the band offers attitude injected pop-punk that pounces on you with tough yet infectious songs that methodically breakout providing a sense of power and polish. As a hard-driving backend meets precise guitar licks and ever inviting lyrics, the experimental pop-rock outfit Purples eases you into its musical mode with a sense of comfort amid oddball tendencies, placing one in a familiarly warped place. The dreary haze of Queen Jesus also casts a strange embrace, crossing a loner vibe while painting the scenery with swirling pieces of sound. Matt Scheuermann’s personal meditative songwriting finds a focused fortitude as the beauty of Roses locks in a loaded local lineup. Everybody Hits, 539 W. New Music Video: "Drop D" - Queen Jesus

Queen Jesus, formerly King God and featuring members of Three Man Cannon, premiered a new music video yesterday for "Drop D" at Stereogum. The black and white footage helps to translate the song’s murky ominous, mood, while also touching on the corresponding living narrative imagery of the city. It was directed by Craig Sheihing, and the track can be found on the band's upcoming album Darkness Yea, Yea, which will be available on September 12 via Philly upstart Stereophonodon Records.
