New Track: "Evaporate" - Purples

Sounds of dogs barking, parades, and strings hang in the periphery of Purples new song “Evaporate”. Once one enters into the sonic forest, the flex of soaring guitars counters the band’s juxtaposing blend of jangly grooves and vocal harmonies. It’s laidback, before kicking into overdrive. You can catch the band alongside The Dawn Drapes and The Collingwood tomorrow evening at Bourbon & Branch.

New Track: "Small Sister (Work of Art)" - Purples

Purples seem to linger to one’s consciousness, releasing a new song every few weeks.  Their latest “Small Sister (Work of Art)” howls with a sense of horror before rolling into a rumbling bass popping scenario.  While anxiety over handling the exterior world percolates, melodic harmony-fortified psych-pop rules out. Catch Purples at Johnny Brenda’s with Up The Chain on March 11.

New Track: "Believe" - Purples

Purples are at it again; this time with a new song, “Believe.” It's a tight dance groove that builds as synth gives way to a spiraling guitar riff into a backend mover. Despite the song’s upbeat tone, which is further sweetened by falsetto vocals, lyrically, the song tears with duality - “I believe in myself/I deceive with belief.” Throw in a short bursting guitar solo, and you have a soothing yet introspective song. Purples is part of a lineup on Wednesday, January 20 at Everybody Hits with Static Mountain, Tangiers, and Slang.

Weekend Warrior, November 6 - 8

There is a certain charm to watching a local band rise through the music industry and claim their visibility in a more macro cultural lens. Living in Philadelphia, we have been lucky to get to enjoy this process again and again the past few years. One of the more recent Philly exports and former Deli Philly Artist of the Year is The Districts. The quartet makes accessible indie rock of the highest quality, infused with blues, Americana and folk elements, punctuated by lyrics dripping with emotional resonance. The Districts have both an instrumental and lyrical maturity, resembling a more composed, introspective Twin Peaks. The former Lititz, PA natives are headlining the E Factory this evening, and the sweet bill will be rounded out by Lady Lamb, a rocker version of Fiona Apple with haunting vocalization, and local indie-rock favorites, Purples. New Track: "Saving One For You" - Purples

After building steam with a bunch of fine power-pop ditties, Purples are back with a touching rock ballad called "Saving One For You," demonstrating their songwriting versatility. The band has been compiling recorded tracks every couple of weeks so they should have enough material for a new album soon enough. Until then, you can catch them live on Friday, November 6 at the Electric Factory with The Districts and Lady Lamb.
