New Track: "J'admets" - The Orange Drop

Below is the latest psyched-out throwback single from The Orange Drop called "J'admets," which means "granted" in French. The track will appear on the group's upcoming full-length album, which the band has been recording at Spice House Sound. Enjoy! (Photo by Jenny Lee Baniszewski)

Get Psyched w/The Orange Drop at Bourbon & Branch April 20

After releasing a new EP Have You Got It Yet? earlier this year, recorded with producer Jeff Zeigler and with a new addition of Peter Stanko (Sweet Island) on guitar, The Orange Drop are set to make their first local appearance of 2015 at Bourbon & Branch. The quartet crafts psychedelic tunes which can manifest a heavier mind-absorbing air as the drone–guitar and persistent percussion meld, forming organic walls of sound around you and Marc-Andre Basile’s clean, conjuring vocals, stretched out in a hypnotic fashion. Psych outfit Seismic Thrust has a calm, jangly groove-expanding vibe, gradually pushing further out as they integrate into their surroundings. Brooklyn-based trio Sky Picnic complete a bill set to place your head in the heavens. Bourbon & Branch, 705 N. 2nd St., 7pm, $8, 21+ - Michael Colavita

New Track: "Julia Dream" (Pink Floyd Cover) - The Orange Drop

It should come as no surprise that the band whose debut EP Drone Pop, opening with an indicative, spacey track, ”She Will Get You (High),” also nailed a Pink Floyd cover. On a tripped-out “Julia Dream,” a B-side of the legendary group's single "It Would Be So Nice," The Orange Drop is at their best, perfectly capturing the song’s quixotic nature and flaunting their true understanding of 60’s psych-pop. For the mellotron and organ, they brought in their friend Mike Kiker from soul-influenced, acid-rock outfit St. James & The Apostle to do an impressive rendition of Rick Wright’s keys. Check out the track below! Warning: It might leave you feeling like you’re wandering around an enchanted forest...on shrooms.

The Orange Drop Will Get You (High) at MilkBoy Philly Sept. 12

Tonight, MilkBoy Philly will be a psych-rock-fueled intuition, as a pair of local acts specializing in the comforting drifting airs will lead the hazy charge. Last month’s Featured Artist(s) Poll Winners, The Orange Drop, seep into your ears placing an accessible comforting fog, supported through searing drone guitar with a backend propelled heartbeat that peaks through the clouds, creating a fluidly absorbing sound. Developing a tripped-out, astral, noise-psych combination through soothing steady-handed synth–guitar interplay navigating the cosmos will be fellow up-and-comers, Drone Ranger. They'll be opening for Canadian Hindie-rockers, Elephant Stone, incorporating the eastern toned sitar into a perpetual groove. MilkBoy Philly, 1100 Chestnut St., $12, 8:30pm, 21+ - Michael Colavita
