The Black Black and Low Fat Getting High celebrate LP releases at Cake Shop tomorrow (11.13)

Post-punk is back in full force nowadays, and Brooklyn trio The Black Black - with their muscular, driving, dark, and relentless sound - offer a rather uncompromising version of it.  They released their debut album 'Boogie Nights' yesterday (11.11) and in support of it, they're playing a record release show at Cake Shop tomorrow (11.13).  Money Fire Records label mates Low Fat Getting High (punky-ish as well, but in a more 90s kind of way) will also celebrate the release of their self-titled LP. On he bill also Dead Stars and Seattle's Iska Dhaaf. Listen to TBB's new album's single 'Until Death Do Us Party' below.  It's a bass-driven, energetic, punk rock teleport to the late 1970s when post-punk really exploded. They're not wildly experimental, but rather straight and to the point. After all, isn't that how punk rock should be? - Michael Haskoor (@Tweetskoor)

JP's CMJ 2014 Day3: Girl Tears, Mega Bog, Dinner, Widowspeak, Bailiff, The New Tarot, The Teen Age, Charly Bliss, Low Fat Getting High

Hey! I actually got out of my house before 2! Progress, man. I suppose I stopped drinking early enough the night before that it made for a somewhat conventional nights' sleep, odd hours. I woke up to a barrage of text messages from last night. My phone had died and I was playing catch-up on my life while trying to make it to Baby's for the Captured Tracks unofficial day party. Jesus I think this thing's starting to take a toll on me. I'm uncharacteristically writing this on the fly, on my rejuvenated telephone, trying not to fall behind. Or asleep. - keep reasing JP Basileo's report of Day 3 of the CMJ Music Marathon 2014 (picture by Micah Weisberg)

Weekly Features: Low Fat Getting High plays The Chris Gethard Show on 06.24

The aggressive grunge punk trio known as Low Fat Getting High puts a bullet bursting with energy, catchy choruses and rough edges right between your eyes. The band has been slowly making a name for themselves thanks to their energetic live shows, and has captured that sort of flare on their latest 4-song EPs: 2013's 'Bad Yoga' and recently released 'Poor Circulation' - a fanzine/EP collectors might want to own (the band's songwriter Michael Sincavage is a skilled illustrator who has contributed with his work to various issues of The Deli). Interesting doors have been opening for the band in the last year, including shows in support of Titus Andronicus, Jon Spencer and Bass Drum of Death, and - on June 24 - they'll be celebrating their (internet) TV debut at the Chris Gethard Show.

Low Fat Getting High releases EP/zine + opens for Titus Andronicus on 06.12

Low Fat Getting High is one of the most prominent Brooklyn bands riding the new wave of guitar rock inspired to the noisy 90s, although they predated this trend, since they've been releasing their first record in 2012. Their recent 'Poor Circulation' EP is their noisisest and darkest record to date, and also the best produced one. Reoccuring sonic references to noise rock, blues rock and even metal are framed within four wild punk rock nuggets. Also, 'Poor Circulation' is not just an EP but also a 'zine, illustrated by the band's lead singer/guitarist (and frequent Deli visual contributor) Michael Sincavage.

The band (which also made our latest Best of NYC list) will be opening for Titus Andronicus and Eagulls at Warsaw on June 12 during the Northside Festival, and is currently working on a full length scheduled for a fall 2014 release. Check out the EP opener Emasculator, streaming below.
