BRAIN Arts Org. Announces Indiegogo Fundraiser, Unveils Hassle Fest 7 Lineup

If you live in the Greater Boston area, you probably are well-acquainted with the three phenomena that are guaranteed to accompany the arrival of fall in New England: the annual migration of drunk college students, clogging the archaic transportation system, the reappearance of annoyingly-outspoken Patriots fans and Boston Hassle Fest. Yesterday, BRAIN Arts Org. unveiled their Indiegogo fundraiser campaign for this year's Hassle Fest, offering much-needed respite from "Free Brady" t-shirts lining the Boston city streets. This year's lineup boasts over 50 bands, with the likes of Pile, Downtown Boys, and Guerilla Toss serving as the welcoming committee for major headliners Screaming Females, Flipper (with David Yow) and Terrence Dixon. The Indiegogo campaign is the only way to secure advance tickets to any fest performance, so make sure to donate early and guarantee your presence at BRAIN Arts Org.'s biggest annual event.

Boston Hassle Fest 6 Kicks Off This Weekend

On November 7 & 8, Boston Hassle Fest 6 will be taking over Cuisine en Locale in Somerville, Massachusetts, bringing with it an incredibly talented lineup of underground and not-so-underground acts from the States and abroad. After the immense success of last year’s festival (sell-out crowds gathered to see the likes of Black Dice and Lightning Bolt), this year’s offering is shaping up to be even more impressive. Headliners include No Joy, Chris Corsano/Bill Orcutt Duo and Body/Head, the latest project from Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) and Bill Nance.

The focus won’t be entirely on the nationally-known acts--local and regional favorites like Guerilla Toss, Pigeons, Couples Counseling and Pile are among the will be among the roughly 40 performers to take the stage over the two-day aural extravaganza.

Advance tickets are no longer available, but tickets will be sold at the door each night of the fest until the venue reaches capacity. $17-20 sliding scale, ALL AGES. Friday’s performances run from 6PM to 12:30AM; Saturday 3PM-12:30AM. After-parties will be held each night at a “secret” location, announced at the fest.

For more info about Hassle Fest 6 (and to check for updates about set-times, etc.) visit the Boston Hassle Facebook page or check out the Boston Hassle website.

(Rather extreme) Art Punk from Brooklyn: Palberta

The no wave/art-punk movement pioneered by bands like The Lounge Lizards, Art Brut and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have paved the way for the current up and coming sonic experimenters that continue to push the boundaries of what punk music is and what it can sound like.  Bands like Guerrilla Toss, Sediment Club, Show Me the Body have been re-contextualizing an already well known punk sound and aesthetic, turning it completely on its side, and traveling to further and further reaches of sonic experimentation.  One of the latest additions to this crew is a quirky, all female Brooklyn based trio of multi-instrumentalists who go by the name of Palberta.  Here are some reasons why we love Palberta: They like to push peoples buttons, they all swap instruments on each song, and they're not afraid of the patriarchy.  Their sound covers a lot of territory, but each song has this whimsically dark personality completely unique to Palberta. The band fearlessly switches between off-kiltered, yet quite catchy, indie-rock melodies to monstrously static-ridden blasts of noise.  They recently released a split EP with New England Patriots, a band which exists in a similar realm. Stream below their interoperation of Hot Cross Buns, it's a real treat. - Jake Saunders

Guerilla Toss is The Deli's Best Emerging New England Band of 2012

New England Music Fans,

We are proud to announce that The Deli New England’s Best of 2012 Emerging Artist is Guerilla Toss! This uncompromising, bizarre industrial/dada five piece (pictured and streaming below) gathered multiple votes from our jury of scene experts, which allowed them to end up on top. Kudos also to pop punkers Fat Creeps, who placed second, and orchestral blues sextet The Bridgebuilders, who sneaked in thuird position thanks to the good performance in our Readers and Fans' Poll.

Please take a look at our chart of 60 New England area artists below. The highest value of votes came from our jurors, who included individuals professionally involved in the local scene. This includes promoters, venue owners, press, DJs and other music experts. The remainder of the votes was compiled by The Deli New England contributors, readers, and open submissions voted on by national Deli editors.
