2013 was certainly the year newly formed, Fever The Ghost, emerged. Quickly rising to the top of every promoter and blogger's year end list of "Ones to Watch," and the like, with their engaging live shows and quirky image. They may have the antics to grab any usually skeptic listeners' attention, but they also have the songs to back up the hype. Psychedelia is at the forefront of their sound, but pop is the glue holding it all together. Their very recently released debut EP, 'Crab In Honey,' is a journey into effects-drenched absurdism akin to early Zappa, but they never go too far astray as to take themselves too seriously. The first single, "Source," is a snappy, upbeat tune with layer upon layer of trippy textures, space-bound synth lines, and beefy guitar riffs. This February see them every Monday at The Detroit Bar for their free month-long residency.

Our Year End Poll for Emerging Los Angeles Artists was - as usual - a painstaking (and somewhat excruciating) process, but we pulled it off with remarkable flair! Kudos to Moses Sumney for winning it! 2013 was an exciting and inspiring year for LA's music scene. No one encompassed that more fully than Moses Sumney. We are glad to be able to give him the honor of winning the title. 

Here's how it all went down. First, we let the local bands submit their music (for free), and got our Deli editors to pick the nominees. Then we polled a list of 15+ Los Angeles scene experts (our jury, list at the bottom) and asked them to nominate 3 more bands of their choice each. Then we polled our writers, then we polled our readers. We tried to keep things open for each single genre, from Indie Rock to Roots Music to Hip Hop.

There is an undeniable buzz surrounding psych rockers Fever The Ghost. Bursting onto the scene in 2013, their momentum has only increased in the new year. Dazzling audiences with their impressive and engaging live shows has created an intense anticipation for their forthcoming EP, 'Crab in Honey', set for release January 21 on Complicated Game. The quartet mixes a healthy dose of absurdism with deliciously satisfying hooks wrapped inside an acid trip.
