Weekend Warrior, August 11 - 13

Locals via Lititz and The Deli Philly’s 2013 Emerging Artist of the Year, The Districts will be congregating at a sold-out show this evening at Union Transfer to celebrate the release of their new album Popular Manipulations (Fat Possum). Still evoking an earnest pit-in-the-stomach power, the band’s sound ventures into more polished production depths on their latest release. Utilizing control within a hallowing, personal, vocal force and the detail of densely woven instrumentation, The Districts tap into unified sonic waves. Tonight, they’ll be joined by The Spirit of the Beehive’s tumultuous torrent of psych and the enchanting yet eruptive rock of Abi Reimold. A plethora of young, Philly talent will be taking over the old Spaghetti Warehouse! – Michael Colavita

Soccer Mommy release new video ahead of album release 08.04

Contrary to her bedroom pop musical style, Soccer Mommy’s new music video is all outdoors, featuring different shots of lead singer, Sophie Allison, strolling out near the water, woods, and her car over the delightful single, “Allison”. This is one of two songs released off their upcoming album, Collection, set to release on August 4th. “Allison” and “Out Worn” both share similar aspects, an introductory reverbed guitar riff, accompanied then by echo-y, dreamy layers, but the directions of both songs evolve differently, "Allison" bringing forth blissful yet melancholic aspects, and “Out Worn” sounding more upbeat, drum-driven. Soccer Mommy will be touring this summer, which will include a show at Terminal 5 with The Districts--the Philly quartet featured on the Cover of the Deli Magazine's SXSW issue a few years back, who are also set to release their album, Popular Manipulations, the following week. Come celebrate with both bands at their show on August 16th in NYC. – Pearse Devlin

New The Districts Album Available for Streaming

After multiple sneak peaks into their forthcoming LP, Philly indie rockers The Districts just premiered Popular Manipulations over at NPR's First Listen. The group worked with producer John Congleton, once again, on their third full-length album, but they also guided the project themselves with help from audio engineer Keith Abrams (of Pine Barons), creating a beautifully robust sounding record. Popular Manipulations officially comes out next Friday, August 11 via Fat Possum Records, and you can help the quartet welcome its arrival at Union Transfer that same evening on a stacked bill, which also includes talented local pals The Spirit of the Beehive and Abi Reimold.

The Districts Benefit for Standing Rock Release Available for Streaming & Purchase

Protesters have been gathering for months near Standing Rock Sioux reservation to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline, which poses a threat to water resources and sacred Native American sites. With state officials ordering activists to vacate the area and an incoming President financially invested in the 3.8 billion dollar project, the thousands camped in the snow and freezing temperatures certainly could use any help possible battling the odds and greed of Corporate America. The Districts recently posted a couple of demos ("One to Another" & "Alice"), which you can stream and purchase below, with all proceeds going to the Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council. Please donate.
