New Music Video: "Hot Dad Calendar" - Cayetana

To honor Martin Luther King Jr. yesterday, we took the day off from writing about music to help out with a little painting so forgive us for still playing catch up. Now, we already knew Cayetana's "Hot Dad Calendar" is a helluva catchy tune with an absolutely rad song title, but the South Philly power trio really brings you into the party with their new music video for the single. This has been on serious repeat. Why? Simply - it makes us feel young and alive, which is obviously a good thing. Cayetana are supposed to be kicking off their mini-tour with Waxahatchee and All Dogs tonight at The Mercury Lounge in NYC, but we'll see if the weather allows that to happen. The tour will be closing out in Philly this Sunday, January 26 at the First Unitarian Church. (Photo by Mary Ferrigno)

Hop Along & Cayetana Opening for The Thermals at Union Transfer May 25

Hop Along, fresh off a victory lap from the recording of their debut album Get Disowned, are opening for cerebral pop-punk powerhouses The Thermals at Union Transfer tonight, along with jangly, exuberant newcomers Cayetana. Anyone who's been following the trajectory of Frances Quinlan et al knows that the trio has a few styles to their name - power-folk, punk riffs, heart-rending anthemics. Get Disowned finds Hop Along throwing each of their trademark sounds up to 11, all while keeping anchored in the bruising, heart-on-sleeve quality with which they began. Cayetana, who share much of Hop Along's immediacy and sunny-meets-pensive atmosphere, are a fitting companion, and of course, opening for The Thermals is no mean feat, one that comes with a fair measure of congratulations for the fledgling outfit who recently signed to Tiny Engines. Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St., 8:30pm, $15, 21+ - Alyssa Greenberg
