Caverns brings psychedelia to Rough Trade tonight (04.05)!

With reverb laden guitar sections and long instrumental progressions interspersed in their work, the Brooklyn psych rock band Caverns builds a sound reminiscent of the 60’s and 70’s prog rock scene. With a dreaminess laced into every song, and guitar riffs that sound like slow bursts and plops of neon bubbles in a lava lamp, EP Tonche. dwells between late Pink Floyd's placid psychedelia (Ten Feet Tall), atmospheric pop (Ghosts) with interespersed hard rock elements, through sudden energetic bouts. Catch them tonight (April 5th) at Rough Trade with BRIDGES and Manic Pixi. - Adriana S Ballester

Get "Soaked" with noise in Sun Drug's new video

Realigned Silverlake quartet Sun Drug (fka Vanaprasta) want to trepanate you with the video to their newest single "Soaked". Shot in the middle of Joshua Tree, "Soaked" is the second vanguard of Sun Drug's darker visions, following June's digital foray "Easy In Your Attitude".

The summer departure of drummer Ben Smiley, and the counsel of Rocco DeLuca changed the band's course from their 2011 debut Healthy Geometries. A full 180 on sound, the Sun Drug EP doesn't uplift; it agitates. It doesn't embrace guitar warmth; it fucks with synthesizer chills. Heavy doses of noise play, electric beats, and zipper-fuzz riffs will leave you burning through dusk. Metabolize with care.

Sun Drug's next gig is Chris Douridas' School Night Mondays with Caverns, Hazel English, and The Shadowboxers at Bardot. - Ryan Mo

NYC Dream Pop band Caverns unveil "Tonche" EP + play CMJ

Comprised of just three musicians, Caverns make music that plunges into many different subgenres of rock. Founded in 2012 by singer Nicola Wincenc, the NYC-based band released their first EP “Tonche” earlier this year, and has already landed some noteworthy gigs; just a few weeks ago they headlined Marc Jacobs’ NYFW show, and in another couple of weeks they will be playing the CMJ Music Marathon. Throughout their EP, Caverns smoothly blend the atmospheric soundscapes of shoegaze rock and airy melodies of psych-rock, while retaining, in their lyrics and vocal harmonies, the accessible qualities of pop music. Considering their relatable songwriting and the melodic nature of their music, Caverns is a band that has the potential to go places. - Isabel Rolston, photo by Dani Brubaker.

NYC indie group Caverns playing at Knitting Factory on 9.10

Caverns is a NYC-based indie-rock band whose latest EP, 'Tonche,' seamlessly blends elements of psych-rock, prog-rock, and a bit of pop into a replay-worthy debut. The influence of classic acts on the group is undeniable. The EP's third track, "Count to Five" (streaming below), opens with a psychedelically dark guitar riff that would feel right at home on a Pink Floyd record, and yet there's enough of their own fingerprints on the music that it has a unique sound. The rest of the EP follows a similar pattern, succesfully blending a modern indie-rock nature with psych-and-prog-rock qualities. Caverns has made quite an impact with its debut record. The opening track, "Ghosts," already has over 30,000 plays on Souncloud, just 3 months after the EP's release. The band is currently working on new material and you can catch them live at Knitting Factory on September 10. - Patrick Wolff
