Embrace Bondage & Discipline at Ortlieb's July 8

Electro-rock outfit Bondage & Discipline meshes a breezy, synth/percussion-compassed sound, with a slightly ominous, heavy undercurrent. The end game is one that utilizes layered, harmony-fueled vocals, with a ceaseless-moving instrumental base, capturing warmth while hinting at impending chills. The group will release its debut LP Love Me Like I’m Dead via a series of smaller song groupings; the first, No One, will be released on July 12. Unifying waves of jangly, fuzzed guitar with a locked-in snap and pop of bass and percussion and semi-spoken Lou Reed-inspired vocals, The Stammer helps fortify this billing at Ortlieb’s, which also features the back alley synth explorations of Blood Sound, who have a new album on the horizon, entitled True Romance Magazine. After releasing their debut EP Vail earlier this spring, the haunting post-punk of Brooklyn trio Decorum rounds out this goth dance party. Ortlieb’s, 847 N. Third St., 8pm, $10, 21+ - Michael Colavita

The Morelings Opening for Bondage & Discipline at Ortlieb's Dec. 4

Dream-pop duo The Morelings recently shared a sun-kissed, daydream-y music video (below) for their single “Too Far,” which features bassist/vocalist Kedra Caroline wandering the shores of a beach home video style. It's the perfect accompaniment to the hazy track off their debut EP No Sign. You can also catch them live this evening at Ortlieb's opening for The National Rifle expats, Bondage & Discipline, which will be their last show of 2015. However, look out for their first album in the New Year. Also slated on the bill are Mock SunsOrtleib's, 897 N 3rd St., 9pm, $10, 21+ - Bill McThrill

Bondage & Discipline Opening for Superhumanoids at JB's Sept. 29

Bondage & Discipline will be leaving the confines of Cambridge Sound Studios this evening, where the trio has been recording its debut album. The band, who originally came together as part of raucous indie-rock outfit The National Rifle, has left behind its beer-drenched, adrenaline-fueled past for a polished synth-pop sound that wanders through waves of longing. The bravado of the group's previous life has been dismantled, leaving the band exposed but ready to unveil its next sonic adventure. Bondage & Discipline will be opening for LA dream-popsters Superhumanoids tonight at Johnny Brenda's with Brooklyn's Rush Midnight in tow. Johnny Brenda's, 1201 N. Frankford Ave., 9pm, $12, 21+ (Photo by Jon Stars) - H.M. Kauffman

Weekend Warrior, February 27 - March 1

Ever since forming from the remnants of The National Rifle in late 2013, Bondage & Discipline have been hard at work honing their sound and creating material for their debut LP. They've also been recording with Todd McCaughey of Cambridge Sound Studios, and are slated to drop the album later this year. But the band just recently shared its third single, “First Kiss,” which is based on a discarded letter that singer/guitarist Hugh Moretta found on a train. It explores a desirous sentiment that was never shared with the person whom inspired it. It also reveals more of the bands danceable ambient electronic beats that you'll be able to hear if you catch them during the Winter of Y-Not Concert Series at Ortlieb's this Saturday night. They'll be joined by Steve Goldberg's melodic synthpop project Resistor and darkwave trio Blood Sound. Ortlieb's, 847 N. 3rd St., 8pm, $8, 21+ - Bill McThrill

Free Download: "First Kiss" - Bondage & Discipline

Below is the new single from Bondage & Discipline called "First Kiss," which you can stream and download for free. With this latest track, you'll find keyboardist Lynna Stancato playfully taking the vocal lead as she and the rest of the gang searches for "real love." The electro-pop/rock trio will continue its pursuit as a five-piece this Saturday, February 28 at Ortlieb's alongside Blood Sound and Resistor. (Photo by Jon Stars)
