New Tracks: "Serial Killer Status" & "Katie's Conscious" - Algernon Cadwallader

Philly emo revivalists Algernon Cadwallader announced plans to reissue their debut album, Some Kind of Cadwallader, in honor of its 10th anniversary, along with 2011's Parrot Flies and a new self-titled compilation, which includes the group's EPs, b-sides, and covers. You'll also find previously unreleased versions of "Serial Killer Status" and "Katie's Conscious" that were originally meant for a seven-inch. The reissues and compilation will be out on December 14 via Lauren Records/Asian Man. There is still no word of future tour plans, but you can find former AC members performing on stage with Hop Along and Yankee Bluff.

Algernon Cadwallader Is “Officially Laid to Rest”

It’s always sad to hear when the realities of life forces band members to go their separate ways. In a post on their blog yesterday, Algernon Cadwallader announced that the band has been “officially laid to rest.” Drummer Tank Bergman just got a full-time job as a nurse, and he also has a baby on the way so obviously touring is not in the best interest for his/their future. It was great to see them end things on a high note with a recent sold out show at the First Unitarian Church. However, it doesn’t mean that this will be the end for the songwriting days of Peter Helmis and Joe Rienhardt who hinted that they are already working on new music together. You can check out the whole message from the band HERE.

Algernon Cadwallader & Co. Show SOLD OUT at FUC Aug. 17

Tonight in the basement of the First Unitarian Church there will be a good old-fashion rock show hosted by local indie noodlers Algernon Cadwallader. They’ve been on tour all August with NY buds Joyce Manor, so this homecoming show will probably be that much sweatier/louder. The last time Algernon played the Church they were in support of Hop Along’s record release show, but the band is still riding on their excellent Parrot Flies LP. Their jubilant, skittering punk rock has been gaining speed of late, so it is nice to see these mainstays get some more attention. Scranton, PA pop-punkers Tigers Jaw and Philly somewhat weird indie but still punk group Kite Party are opening the show, which is SOLD OUT, so sucks for you slackers.  First Unitarian Church, 2125 Chestnut St., 7pm, $10 (SOLD OUT), All Ages - Adam G.
