Half Stack's New EP, Aw Hell

Country-twinged rock group Oakland’s Half Stack just released their latest EP, Aw Hell. The collection features four tunes that showcase the group’s lovely picking, twangy guitars and lyrics that are at times sad, at times funny. Self-described “choogle” and psychedelic rock, Half Stack is worth a good listen. -Lucille Faulkner

Throwin' Bo's brings Max Gardener, Half Stack, Chelsea Rose & Easy Love

This Friday August 2, the Milk Bar is the lucky host of another Throwin’ Bo’s night. Those boys sure know how to put a bill together. The night will feature a couple of Bay Area favorites and some sweet LA gems. From the Area we have Half Stack, those fun and funny folk music folks that know how to tickle a guitar. There’s Max Gardener, whose gentle dreamy bedroom folk will make you bat your lashes and tap your fingers. Tied for best former Summer Twin we have Chelsea Rose with a true and lovely voice and delightful presence--see video demonstration below--and Easy Love, that 60's inspired indie pop that hits just the right spot. Me oh man, what a night! – Michelle Kicherer, Associate Editor

Showcase Alert: Throwin' Bo's Presents at The Elbo Room (11.14) Healing Potpourri, April Magazine, & Half Stack

Good things must once again come to an end it seems. It was announced in October that the beloved Elbo Room would be shutting down on January 1, 2019 -- and with it will go the monthly Throwin' Bo's at the Elbo Room showcase. Founder Eli Anaya, however, will continue to book and promote shows under the name Throwin' Bo's Presents, and tonight will be his second to last show ever at The Elbo Room. The bill is stacked with all locals. Healing Potpourri will bring along their classic easy-listening lounge-psych, which should fit right in with the lo-fi jangly rock of April Magazine. Half Stack will be performing live for the first time since the release of their psych-influenced California country LP Quitting Time. Come experience what may be one of your last shows at the Elbo Room, and maybe sing along to a few swan songs while you're there. Prepare by streaming some of our favorite tracks from these artists below. - Lilly Milman

Half Stack release single "Dually" & announce LP 'Quitting Time'

The enigmatic Oakland five-piece Half Stack have released the first single off of their forthcoming LP Quitting Time. The freak-folk track “Dually” is textured with psychedelic influences that draw out and distort the vocals into a pleasantly unique incarnation of West Coast country. The repetition of the line “Is it real at all?” invites listeners to drift into Half Stack’s dream world, and we are happy to do it. Quitting Time will be released in full on October 19 via Processional Cross. - Lilly Milman

Showcase Alert: Throwin' Bo's at The Elbo Room (4.5) ft. Half Stack, The Band Ice Cream, and The Younger Lovers

The Deli SF is excited to announce that from the same people that brought you the monthly Milk Was A Bad Choice showcase, comes Throwin’ Bo’s—a new local showcase at the Elbo Room, hosted on the first Thursday of every month. For everyone who feels like they hang out at the same bar and see the same people every day, this is the event for you.

The first installment is approaching quickly on April 5th, featuring the psych-influenced, jangle-folk of Oakland rockers Half Stack, the fast-paced alt-rock of San Francisco-based The Band Ice Cream, and a headlining performance by none other than Oakland mainstay The Younger Lovers (streaming below). When we say the lineup is stacked, we aren’t kidding around.

This event is 21+ and will cost $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Anyone interested can RSVP on Facebook. - Lilly Milman
