Artist to Watch: Evan Voytas

Evan Goytas is a Pennsylvania transplant to the LA area, but the city seems to have helped him produce a unique brand of synth-pop. On the 24th of this month, he'll release a new EP, entitled Feel Me, on Dovecote Records. Surrounded by looping synth sounds and a simple piano melody, Goytas' voice floats on top bathed in reverb. It's almost like post-club music; something for the cool down after the crazy. There's a certain relaxing effect that makes it the perfect song to sit and listen to in the dark. It's brooding, but not in a heavy handed way. There's sure to be more songs on the upcoming EP, which you should check out. You can listen to "Can't let Anybody Know Who You Are" and other releases on his myspace page. - Taylor Lampela

man im really not down with this whole new tr00 pop punk scene. its not only that im not into the music/bands that it ucpdores, but alot of the fans are elitist dickheads who hate on the disneypunk and easycore stuff. kinda like how the tr00 metalheads hate on deathcore and metalcore and whatnot. i <3 "disneypunk" and "easycore", this new tr00 pop punk stuff, eh not so much. oh, and you couldve mentioned how the wonder years are actually the perfect example of this transition. cause their early stuff was actually fun loving easycore, then they transitioned into the more serious "tr00" pop punk stuff later.i think tr00 pop punk is the new ikeacore for the younger generation (teens). ikeacore for older people (21+) is like orgcore (dear landlord, umm cant think of any other examples now cause i dislike that stuff haha, but bands that are popular on punknews.org).

Funeral Party
Golden Age of Nowhere

mp3

Funeral Party blends punk aesthetics infused with a nuevo Indie vibe that blows the doors off The Strokes, Killers, and Arcade Fire. This LA group breeds a new crop of the next generations distain for the mundane. Released on March 29th, The Golden Age of Knowhere expresses the angst of youth and gives off the same vibrant energy you experience attending their live performances. The defiance, competitive nature, and taunting in "New York City moves to the Sound of LA" says it all. Every track on this album has a strength to it that when tied together play as a cohesively tight album. The stand out tracks are "Finale", "NYC Moves 2 the sound of LA", and "Youth & Poverty", but even that breakdown isn't fair given the great effort from this band on the verge. Funeral Party opens for Panic! at the Disco at The Wiltern, June 21st.
